very busy
realizing that elias' passport is expired...
scrambling to get the form filled out, the photo taken, and show up at the embassy...
there is still time until he travels, but we talk about getting an us passport abroad...
o well, this is part of the excitement to prepare for an over seas trip this summer.
sorry for no photos today, i'm just not on top of it...

::getting to enjoy some old childrens booklets, this particular one is one, i have grown up with
::easter breakfast a big treat for all, before heading out for church
::jesus is risen, indeed hi is risen, Halleluja!
::of course egg rolls, chocolates had to be hidden by adults and found by the kids
::lots of resting and being
::a many good moments to work on the farm for the boys
::jumpoline is thea's word for going to jump on the big trampoline...

asparagus for dinner
local green asparagus is in season, early this year. i love those tasty stems and found a quick recipe to serve them once a bit different.
in the past i served them plain with sauce bernaise or hollondaise, or in a hearty risotto with freshly grated parmesan.
and then just yesterday i stumbled over this yummy looking recipe. they are rolled in ham and puffy pastry or if you prefer filo. bake and serve with a herb vinaigrette. everyone liked them, except some folks on our dinner table which just can not get them self to eat green veggies... (o well i can't help them)
with good friday and easter coming up, i will be gone for a few days. enjoying the celebration, retreat form the hustle-bustle of our little community and just be family a couple days.

what an exciting day
we have planned the visit to a friend of ours for a while now and thea was very excited to come along. just the two of us, while the older kids were in school this morning...
this special friend of ours has been my teacher in elementary school. she taught me sewing, crocheting, knitting and so many more skills. i'm very grateful for her patience and the love for handicrafts she passed on to me. and i'm sure to many more girls (back in the "olden days" just the girls got to learn all the fiber arts and household crafts, the boys had one more hour of phys ed. and two hours less school.....)
so here we go, d had 5 "joggeli's" ready for thea to pick her favorite one...
there was some meddling going on, but again and again she wanted to play with the same one. the one with the green sweater and striped hat!
and home we trod, with a new friend in her arms
elias and chickens, or in this case a rooster...
we have to try hard not to call him "mister tweedy". though there is to say, he loves his chickens and would not want to get them into pie, no never.
scooting with the big brother... yes it is a favorite of thea's
lots of things happening on a day in mid april in the household of or the rn's...

ATC's being sent out
we have been participating in a kids ATC swap a couple years ago and loved it. it's very exciting to create those little pieces of art. the 3.5 by 2.5" cards are a very nice size for kids to not get lost and fill the card with a desired design or collage or what ever they want. we have been waiting for an other swap for a while and no finally just a few weeks ago we found it at abbie's blog bright eyes & blue eyes. of course the older three wanted to participate, so i signed them up. we got the matching lists and have been working on the ATC's.
Amos has already labeled his six envelops and they are ready to post. naomi has to write some note's on the back of her ATC's and elias will have to pack his into envelopes and get them ready by the afternoon.
amos got his mind set on the nanomania collection of his. he was even writing some stories up for the caracters and sent those along...
naomi was not set on one idea, but like her own self lots of different ideas and even diving into collage gluing
here we go, posted are all the little pieces of art, mostly to america, some to canada and england. it was fun and we really liked to participate. even though it was a bit of a stretch at the end, writing addresses etc... i guess that's all part of it, and if you ask me endurance is a life skill!

weekending
a sunny slow weekend with lots of time spent in the garden out of doors, many creative moments happened and an overnight spent in "the tube".... while some of the kids went to a sleep over at the grandparents after a wonderful dinner of raclette and all kinds of pickled veggies.
now all are well rested and started happily into a new week. it's a short one, as it is holy week and we start spring brake the afternoon of maundy thursday.
drumming his snare to call everyone to the dinner table
the "new" sandbox is such a treat, there is lots of construction and working going on now
the new raspberry plants, and not on the photo there also two current bushes, a white and a red current
the happy boy in "the tube"
my favorite flowers, got them myself at the market last friday and i do absolutely enjoy them

indoor it's spring too
it was raining all day yesterday, not strong but still not very appealing to be outside. the perfect afternoon for naomi to take her water paints out and get to work. she ended up with a summer scene, sun-pool-jumpingboard, already dreaming of it! and then she added the people to the scenery. she did it in the past too. taking some news paper and crumpling it up, adding tape to form it into a person. it looks good and it's fun to do. one of the guys on her collage is jumping, she caught the figure mid air, her mind is great!
in our living room are two glass jars, very simple and still intriguing. i love the snail houses, they are little works of art and nature indoors is good too.

working around the house
the weather is just so warm and sunny, we spend more time out of the house than indoors. this is great, we all love it and feel a bit wired as it is just early april. i'm sure cold stretches with rain will be back, as it is still april and we are supposed to be fooled by the weather!
never the less we enjoy it and take as much sun and warmth in as we can. this way we will be prepared for the indoor days to come.

friday night surprise
a couple weeks ago, joel had the idea to go on a spring-sunset-ride with the kids. we do not own a car but we are mobility members (the equivalent to zip car in the usa), this opened up a whole lot of fun choosing of just the right car. of course it had to be a sporty cabriolet....
the kids didn't know of the plan and elias first didn't catch the spirit of excitement when joel wanted to get going on an "adventure", right after dinner. he had all kinds of interventions, for so many reasons he felt like he didn't want to go to the woods, he didn't want to put on a long sleeve sweater, he didn't want to ride the bike up the hill, he didn't... o well i could go on. naomi was the first to spot the car in the drive way and was very curious about "who is visiting" as she didn't know the car. the boys then were quick to spot the "mobility" sticker and realized what was up.
roof back and up into to sunset...
yeah!
it was exciting and of course the next time it has to be a bigger car, in order to accommodate thea and me as well...

its really spring
for some reason we skipped muddy season this year. we did not have a whole lot of snow after the big december snowstorms. it was a very dry late winter and spring sprung early...
i personally don't mind skipping all the muddy puddles of march, but the kids did miss them.
visiting my brother no the farm over the weekend was great. lots of playing and running around barefoot
no one could escape the energy of spring.
even the calf was being harnessed and taken on a walk by the bigger kids and their opa.
yes this little gutter didn't have to do a lot of work this this spring. it's somehow one little corner which i like to look at. a detail which is impressed since childhood, that little roof over the doorway to my home for the first long childhood and young adult stretch of my life. who knows how much longer it will be there, as the house will have to undergo some major outside renovations soon.

forest for the trees
a couple weeks ago elias, naomi and i decided to participate in a collaborative art project by amy caterina based at arroyo arts collective, called "Forest for the Trees". the three of us were so excited to use our skills and scraps of yarn for this project that we got started immediately.
elias was very quickly in crocheting some kind of a web, which we decided that i will be adding flowers to it
naomi chose three bits of wool, from one of our grandmas and did what she is confident doing totally on her own, finger-crocheting. when she ran out of yarn we rolled it up at one end and added some little flowers and strands. all of her liking
of course the littlest had to help me too with the flowers
i'm excited and will send our contributen off tomorrow morning. i'm also very happy to have crafty children which are up for some fun creative working for someone else!
