last nights birthday

it was the recurring theme of february, joel's birthday...
he could not make up his mind how to go about his birthday party! should it be all inclusive, family only, extended family, nothing at all, and so time went by

we talked about it on many evenings, tried to figure out which day as an early celebration last sunday would have lent itself well. and then amos had his schlagwerk konzert all afternoon, which was getting in the way of having a big chunk of time...

in the end, one of his brothers invited joel and me over for a special dinner last friday. and yes it was a surprise for joel. we even had the time to celebrate with my parents on sunday, having schwarzwaelder and coffee before the big concert at 3pm. of course then today on his real birthday day we had to celebrate just a little bit. making it a good, bit extended dinner in the community. sharing a meal with friends are good times...

that much to my present for him a hand made time piece which will soon be exchanged with a real one. and we all enjoyed preparing for this special birthday of his, crafting, painting, baking, cooking, and of course setting the table, folding napkins and cutting the cake!

this is amos' super sized short bread with chocolate chips!

do you notice the special guest at the table? right it's a from boston, once more we were able to celebrate with company visiting from our old life! thank you for coming to spend some time with us a.

Happy belated birthday. My husband's is later in this month, and I've been wanting to get him a new watch, but haven't had the time to look for one. The sewn one is such a neat idea.

On another note - schwarzwaelder - is this the shortbread? What is it? Recipe?
